While other central banks are hiking interest rates at record speeds, the Bank of Japan have gone against the grain and kept rates below zero. For the first time in decades, Japanese businesses are increasing prices and committing to upping wages. While global economies have been fighting soaring inflation, Japan has welcomed it following years of deflation. Progress is slow, but improvements have been made which could lead to companies being viewed more positively and attracting foreign investment.Īnother driver is Japan’s stance on inflation and interest rates. If the TSE feel a company is trading below book value, or in other words is undervalued, they need to present a plan on how to improve shareholder returns. This includes bettering their workforceand board diversity, transparency and accountability, but also a focus on shareholder returns. The Tokyo Stock Exchange (TSE) has undergone its largest overhaul in over a decade and committed to increase the standards of all listed Japanese companies. Fast forward to today and there’s been large-scale change. To combat this, the late Shinzo Abe, one of Japan’s most loved prime ministers, kickstarted a change in governance standards. Historically, Japanese companies haven’t upheld the same standards as in the western world. One of the most notable drivers is the corporate governance changes. Why is the Japanese stock market proving so popular with investors and where are the opportunities? All of which have seen Japan’s most well-known index surpass its previous high, set all the way back in 1990. Japanese stocks have also benefited from relatively ‘cheap’ valuations and a long-awaited return of inflation. Since the wobbles caused by the banking sector shocks in March, the Japanese stock market has bounced to near all-time highs. Japan has waited more than three decades for its moment in the sun, and many feel it’s on the cusp of a bull market. While it might not have benefited export companies as much as it once did, given some Japanese companies have shifted their production overseas, it’s still good news for a major exporting nation like Japan.Īnd then there’s the stock market. It’s helped boost the attractiveness of Japanese goods, making them relatively cheaper on the world market. This has stretched domestic income and pushed inflation higher.Ī weakening yen isn’t all bad news though. Given Japan import a lot of resources, particularly energy, a weak yen has made these transactions much more expensive. It’s fallen so sharply in fact, that some are questioning its status as a ‘safe haven’ currency. Over the last few years, the yen has fallen to historical lows. The Japanese yen could also add to this pressure. That’s largely because of the weaker than expected demand from China. While projections remain strong and upbeat, Japanese exports are likely to be sluggish this year. Moving forward, growth is expected to slow. Some businesses have rebounded quickly as a result. Following the removal of all pandemic measures, tourists have flocked back to Japan, which has boosted consumer spending. To put this into context, the US and UK’s GDP fell short of expectations, growing 1.1% and 0.2%, respectively.Ī large driver has been the surge in foreign visitors. The economy grew 2.7% in the first quarter of this year, beating earlier forecasts of 1.6%. Unlike many other countries around the world, Japan’s GDP, or gross domestic product, is beating expectations. All investments fall as well as rise in value, so you could get back less than you invest. If you're not sure if an investment is right for you, ask for financial advice. This has led to interest and excitement in Japanese companies being reignited, and begs the question, is this time round really different? Japanese markets have hit the headlines this year, reaching heights not seen since the 1990s. But things are starting to look at little different now. This has been largely the case since the 1990s. As a result, the phrase ‘false dawn’ became commonly linked to Japan, maybe unfairly at times, suggesting that signs of recovery or success are mostly short lived. It’s been a long and difficult journey for investors ever since, and while there have been glimmers of hope over time, they mostly failed to gain any traction. The impact of this period scarred many investors and left them wondering if they should ever invest in Japan again. Japan’s economic bubble burst in the late 1980s to early 1990s, resulting in recession and years of sluggish growth – a period now known as ‘The Lost Decade’. It became the envy of the world during the 1980s as its stock markets surged, exports boomed, and the property sector went from strength to strength.īut how the mighty have fallen. Once upon a time, Japan was the original Asian success story.

This means they're not usable on the Quest 2. It has a lot of EQ options, but they're all software driven. I've heard great things about the G Pro Headphones before. I feel there were a lot of opportunities to make this better, including moving the headset jack to the side instead of the bottom of the headphones, but the shorter headphone cable will make a nice change for VRĪudio quality? I found it lacking quite a bit. The headphones do not look any different than the G Pro X and even the cable is black, not white. I feel it was just a last minute addition. Not a terrible thing since the Pro X is a $130 headset and this one is only $99 It looks to be just a repackaged Logitech G Pro X with a shorter cable for VR. The short cable seems to be the only "special" (Quest 2) benefit of this package. Unfortunately there is no storage bag included. It also comes with a USB DAC (USB to 3.5mm) for use with a PC, a splitter cable (I'm assuming to connect to a PC and split mic and headphones into 2 Jack's), a long cable with a nice textured finish and then a short cable for the Oculus. The headphones come without the mic attached (I don't plan to use the mic, so I'm happy it's not permanently attached). I'm comparing it to a number of different headphones - nice Sennheiser open ear headphones, Beats Pro and some lower end Skullcandy over the ear headphones.įirst impressions: the box is loaded with different cables. Recently, Conor Grogan, the head of product at Coinbase, claimed that affiliated wallets had repeatedly purchased tokens just before they were listed on Binance. In July, when the charges were first announced, Binance CEO Changpeng Zhao, condemned the actions of the Coinbase employee and spoke out against front-running and insider trading, calling for them to be criminal offenses in all countries regardless of whether or not they involve cryptocurrencies or are regulated.īinance, has also been accused of participating in front-running and insider trading. This case has been deemed the first insider trading case to involve cryptocurrencies by federal prosecutors. Ishan Wahi, a former product manager at Coinbase, recently pleaded guilty to his involvement in an insider trading scheme that resulted in $1.1 million in profits. Over the past year, some of the best cryptocurrency exchanges have been accused or confirmed of front-running, a tactic where traders with insider information purchase large amounts of tokens that are expected to rise in value, sometimes in anticipation of being listed on a centralized crypto exchange. Lookonchain referred to the timely trade as “smart money,” but recent trends suggest that intelligence may not be the only factor involved. On the other hand, column names can be used in a query as they are. Essentially, it combines the first name and last name columns of the actors to form their full name representation.Īs you can see, only literal strings need to be enclosed in quotes. The resulting column will contain the literal string Full name: followed by the values from the first_name column, a space character, and the values from the last_name column. The given query retrieves data from the actor table and creates a new column named actor_name using concatenation. 'Full name: ' + first_name + ' ' + last_name AS actor_name Now, we are going to retrieve the actors’ full names from the table in question: SELECT Specifically, the actor table within the database contains the names of the actors who star in the movies available for rent. This database represents an imaginary movie rental shop and contains all kinds of information relevant to its operation. Serendipitously, within our sakila database, there exists an actor table that perfectly fits our demonstration needs. Suppose you would like to join strings from two columns of a table into one. Let’s delve into the practical realm and address a close-to-real-life scenario using the knowledge we have acquired. SQL Server concatenation techniquesĪs we have already immersed ourselves in the theoretical aspects of concatenation, it is now the perfect time to apply our knowledge in practice with the assistance of the powerful dbForge Studio for SQL Server. The result will be a new column called table_name that contains the concatenated values of the first and last names. In this query, column1 is concatenated with space and column2 by means of the plus (+) operator. This can be useful for creating customized output or constructing complex text-based queries: SELECTĬolumn1 + ' ' + column2 AS concatenated_strings Concatenation with table columnsĪs we already mentioned, you can combine values from different columns into a single string by concatenating table columns in SQL Server. Note: Literal strings can also include special characters, numbers, or any desired text. On executing this query, you will get the concatenated string: The first part of the literal string and the second one. When it comes to concatenating literal strings, SQL Server requires enclosing them in single quotation marks (‘ ‘): SELECT 'The first part of the literal string and ' + 'the second one' AS concatenated_string The table_name represents the table from which you are retrieving the data, particularly if you are working with columns. Furthermore, you can combine multiple strings as needed. In the syntax above, you can substitute string1 and string2 with the names of the columns or with literal strings you wish to concatenate. String1 + string2 AS concatenated_strings Therefore, the most simple and unseasoned syntax will look somewhat like this: SELECT In SQL Server, concatenation is the process of combining or joining multiple strings together, commonly using the plus sign (+). By doing so, we can grasp the underlying principles and techniques that form the building blocks of concatenating strings in SQL Server. It is essential to familiarize ourselves with the basic concepts of SQL Server concatenation to ensure a solid foundation before jumping into more complex field conditions. Advanced SQL Server concatenation concepts.Let us embark on this journey to unlock the true potential of concatenation in SQL Server. In this article, we will explore the fundamentals of SQL Server concatenation, delve into different techniques for concatenating strings, and uncover advanced concepts that can take your string manipulation capabilities to the next level using dbForge Studio for SQL Server. The sushi is placed on sanitized leaves on the model's body to prevent skin-to-fish contact and on sufficiently flat areas of the body which the sushi will not roll off. In traditional nyotaimori, the model is generally expected to lie still at all times and usually not talk with guests until the event is concluded even after all food is removed. ĭue to the lack of primary sources, the misconceptions of nyotaimori's origin persisted when the practice became internationally known through popular culture. The nyotaimori practice dwindled as family and private trips to the onsen destinations became increasingly popular in the 1980s and it was subsequently adopted by catering and sex establishments as an exotic attraction. Fuelled by Japan's economic growth in the 1960s, this practice was further evolved by the hot spring bathing ( onsen) industry in the Ishikawa Prefecture where the erotic nature of nyotaimori was used as an advertising tactic by the hot spring resorts to attract male customers who were on company trips to the region. The origin of nyotaimori can be traced back to the food play of wakamezake ( わかめ酒) performed in Yūkaku during the Edo period, where sake would be poured into a sex worker's pubic region for drinking purposes. Nantaimori ( 男体盛り) is the male equivalent. Nyotaimori ( 女体盛り, "serve (foods) on the female body"), often referred to as "body sushi", is the Japanese practice of serving sashimi or sushi from the naked body of a woman.
